This PowerPoint begins The atmosphere is then describing how the atmosphere is a very think layer that surrounds our planet with a neat visual from space. The atmosphere is related to condensation after breathing on an apple (thin). Step by step notes then describe how the atmosphere keeps the planet warm, provides oxygen to breath, protects us (UV). The origins of the atmosphere is then addressed in a step by step process. A class activity has student repeat a box from the step by step process and place an X for a vs. the teacher tic-tac-toe game. A demonstration follows with a candle that helps lead into the composition of the atmosphere. Combustion is described and the composition of the atmosphere is presented in a series of slides. Why the sky is blue is presented in a series of slides with answer. An activity follows the notes that has the students guess the name of the molecule in the atmosphere that an arrow points to. This requires the students to use their notes and deductive reasoning skills. The answers are then revealed. The layers of the atmosphere are then addressed from the lower layers to the upper temperatures. Visuals provide references to altitude with the use of mountains, jet planes, weather balloons, and satellites. An activity has the teacher minimize out of the slideshow and assists students as they drag pictures to the correct layer of the atmosphere. Temperature and why there are temperature variations are covered. A quiz wiz 1-5 has the students guess the correct layer of the atmosphere. A hidden box game concludes the PowerPoint that has the students guess the picture beneath as shapes that are blocking it are removed. This is a fantastic unit that brings many important visuals to the atmosphere.
