Extremely Brief Description.

Lesson 1 Introduction to Non-vascular Plants: This lesson begins describing what a non-vascular plant is in step by step approach with visuals. A for fun quiz then puts their skills to work as they identify plants as vascular or non-vascular. I like to bring in some moss and let students sketch them and label them.

Lesson 2 Bryophytes: Student learn about mosses and then parts of a bryophytes. A neat video explores bogs in Ireland, and they learn about the Tollund Man who has been preserved in a bog.

Lesson 3 Moss and Water Study. Student's create their own study to create a fair test that collect numerical data. They need to create a study to determine how much water can be absorbed by moss. The teacher needs to provide the moss samples. Students learn about the independent variable, dependent variable, and control. They try and graph their findings at the end. -Note: I also included my scientific method lesson which describes the scientific method if students are unfamiliar with how to create a fair test. Corresponding pages in the work bundle are also included.

Lesson 4 Ferns and Horsetails: Students learn about the various divisions of seedless vascular plants, parts of ferns. Fern life cycles is addressed in detail. I like to bring in a few ferns as well.

Lesson 5 Review Game and Crossword Puzzle. A 20 question quiz game acts as a great review and assessment. An answer version is provided so students can self assess. The crossword puzzle has a word bank that can be removed to make the crossword puzzle more challenging.
