This PowerPoint begins by asking the students what shape the Sun is? They reply round, the PowerPoint then shows a morphing sphere that changes shape. The students are then asked if you could pick-up the Sun if you were a heat resistant giant. They then learn how the Sun is Plasma and would be difficult to pick up. Some notes about how the Sun represents 99.8% of the Solar System by mass is described. Some really neat Solar Flares are shown and Sun Spots with relative size of the Earth. The Planets are then compared to the size of the Sun. After some discussion about energy flow on Earth, the composition is described in a step by step process. Plasma is discussed in greater detail. The nuclear process is shown briefly. The Life Cycles of Stars are then shown in a step by step process. A detailed step by step drawing including Super-Nova and blackholes are shown for Super Massive Stars, as well as Red Gain to Stellar Ejections to White Dwarfs for Medium Sized Stars. Stars are then compared to each other to see the enormous size of Stars. A lunar eclipse is described and a step by step drawing unfolds every slide making it easy for the students to follow. Important vocabulary is addressed such as umbra and penumbra. Solar Eclipse follows in similar fashion but includes a bit more such as the Path of Totality. A neat Moon's perspective of the Solar Eclipse is provided. Exciting visuals make this a really neat and educational PowerPoint. The step by step process is key for the students to grasp some difficult concepts. The worksheet has several questions to assess learning. This is a really neat PowerPoint that is full or great images. The entire PowerPoint is one step at a time. This a fantastic unit that your students will enjoy.
